TONIGHT BORING PEOPLE

Tonight, Boring People will premier at 9pm.

This casual first reading will be among the doughy couches and withered succulents of Recess Coffee House (110 Harvard Place, Syracuse).

If hearing original monologues written by Standard Candle’s Roxanne Broda-Blake, Mo Seraji & Katie Yates doesn’t make you salivate, perhaps the beckoning confections of Recess (such as vegan cupcakes, Nutella cappuccinos and spicy hot chocolate) will entice.

Still not titillated enough to brave the near-Alaskan conditions outside your cozy home? These original pieces will be read by the talented Liam Fitzpatrick, Nneka Ebbe, Maryam Seraji, Cat DiGennaro, Roxanne Broda-Blake, Dan Powell & Josh Rivera.

Can’t make it tonight? A second performance will be held at The Coville Theater (5300 Jamesville Road, Dewitt) @ 7pm on Sunday, Jan 22nd.

BORING PEOPLE

Boring People is a series of intimate monologues written by Roxanne Broda-Blake, Mo Seraji and Katie Yates. Inspired by the buzz and the babel of Recess Coffee House, this original series invites audience members into the lives of strangers. Best described as polaroids, these swatches of the human psyche investigate sexual maturity, personal exploration and the fantastical nature of memory.

The first showing of Boring People will be at Recess Coffee House on 110 Harvard Place in Syracuse at 9pm, Jan. 19th. There is no cover charge but we are welcoming donations for the growth and maintenance of Standard Candle Co. More performances TBA.

Mid-Winter Event

In the den of Recess Coffee House, Standard Candle is scheming for their first mid-winter performance piece. With our shoes off and and warm cups of Nutella cappuccino in our hands, we’ve resolved to deliver a series of monologues in a non-traditional setting with an innovative execution. Conceived within the last 24 hours, our performance, (with location and times and details TBA) will be thrown together with whimsy and imagination in just 10 days. Consistent with the Standard Candle model, our performance will be thought-provoking, engaging and perhaps too-close-for-comfort, braiding in Freudian and Jungian themes, as well as the music and writings which inspire us most. Standard Candle is accepting this challenge of producing a show under such an impossible timeline with renewed fervor and excitement. We’re wiping away the Winter crusties from our eyes and pulling the ripcord, like an 8 year old with only 10 more minutes to play his video games. Want to help out? Ideas for space? Want to read? Please contact us! Don’t put off being creative, Syracuse (not even in January)!
